CYCLING TRIP TO THE KOKOŘÍN REGION
All tipsGo on a cycling trip to the border of the Ústí nad Labem and Central Bohemia regions to the popular tourist area of Kokořínsko. The trip is slightly over 40 km long and can be done even by moderately fit cyclists.
The trip starts in Hněvice, where you can park or take the train. Directly in Hněvice you can connect to the cycle route 8249. It will lead you first across the bridge to Štětí and then up a slightly more demanding climb to the village of Stračí. From Stračí, follow the yellow trail, which will lead you first to the interesting Marian Chapel and then to the Mordloch Cave, which is said to have been inhabited by robbers. The yellow trail will then take you past many rock formations and reliefs. Interesting are, for example, the reliefs of the Serpent, the Sphinx and also the Harpenice. Next, the yellow trail will direct you to the village of Želizy, where you should definitely visit the local tourist attraction, which is the Devil's Heads.
In the village of Želízy you will then join the cycle route 8249 again, which will lead you to Mělník after about 12 km. The beautiful town at the confluence of the Elbe and Vltava rivers is very popular with tourists. You can visit the local castle, the town's underground or the Church of St. Peter and Paul with its lookout tower. You can also enjoy a very nice view from the Vráz lookout point a short distance from the church or from the terrace directly below the church.
At Mělník, join the Elbe Trail and follow the Elbe River back to Hněvice. On the way you can refresh yourself in the Na Knížecí Restaurant or the U Stodoly Refreshment Centre.
